I get allot of great use out of my little benchtop drill press and has even more to do with the fact that I use a dedicated drill press table. About a year ago I made my first table but it has not held up well and I never really got around to cutting the table inserts (which I needed to fully use my drum sanders). So with plenty of strong 3/4" white melamine left over from the biscuit joiner fixture, I decided to make another table. This time around I gave the table an edge treatment of left over sassafras strips from the wine bar project. I made certain that the table top and the sassafras were both straight and smooth to create a seamless joint. I used the router table edge jointer and the planer to this end. Then once everything was glued up and dry, I gave the sassafras a 1/2" roundover profile. The results were visually very cool and I have to say it makes me feel better about my woodworking to have such an attractive piece of shop "furniture". |

I was able to successfully cannibalize all of the miter track and fence parts from the old table and incorporate them into this new design. the circular insert is removable and I have several others to use especially with my drum sanders and some of the larger forstner bits. |
| The T-Track hold the fence and hold down clamps tightly to the table. I also have a hold down especially for the 2.5" shop vac hose and the 4" Dust Collector hose that fit onto the table t-track | |
| Here you can get a better idea (somewhat) of the roundover. On the old table I had more than one angry instance where I scraped myself or a workpiece on a sharp corner/edge of the table. I have a few different auxiliary fences for special purposes that mount to the aluminum fence via mini t-tracks. | |
| I cut the circular pieces with my Jasper Model 400 Circle Jig. Each piece fits quite well and | |
| The auxiliary table is held mounted to the drill press table by a Knob with a 1/4"-20 Insert screwed into a threaded insert. It only takes second to remove and I have bit room to maneuver the table if needed. | |
| Here you can see where one of my drum sanders fits nice and snug into the opening of the circular insert. This way I can get the workpiece right up to the sander without causing the sander to 'bend' under pressure. | |
| Here's the dust collection system. It's a neat little dust hood that came with the Delta Shopmaster. It connections right to the 4" DC hose and is a breeze to assemble. | |
| The hood attaches to the table via the t-track and a simple through knob. 20 seconds to set up, 20 seconds to break down! | |
